KAJUKENBO CH`UAN FA August 1990

(Sifu Bill Owens and Leonard Endrizzi)

Ch`uan Fa began in the early 60's in Hawaii. Sijo Adriano Emperado along with students Al Dacascos and Al Dela Cruz incorporated the Tum-Pai innovation into their Kajukenbo training. Along with this incorporation, other martial arts were added.

Later it became obvious that they were no longer doing "Tum-Pai" and in the future it would be named something else.

Mr. Dacascos moved to Northern California in the mid 60's and continued training in the Northern and Southern styles of Sil Lum Kung Fu, to enhance his Kajukenbo self-defense system. It was during this time period that the name Ch`uan Fa was introduced to replace Tum-Pai.

Ch`uan Fa, being an ongoing progression, pleased Sijo Emperado and directed Sifu Al Dacascos to introduce and teach the other Kajukenbo instructors who were in California, this method now named KAJUKENBO CH`UAN FA. Only a few of the Kajukenbo instructors of that time chose to incorporate Ch`uan Fa.

It must be understood that Ch`uan Fa is not one studying Kajukenbo, Northern and Southern styles of Kung Fu. It is the process and principles of how they are blended together. For example: water, flour & yeast together do not make bread. You may have all the right ingredients, but there is a proper method, order, and procedures used in putting the ingredients together.

In studying the Ch`uan Fa, Sifu Al Dacascos found it necessary to expand further the study of one of its principle concepts, Wun Hop Kuen Do. The responsibility and further development of the Kajukenbo branch of Ch`uan Fa was turned over to Sifu Bill Owens and Leonard Endrizzi. This branch is made up of the schools who practice the requirements, techniques and methods of Ch`uan Fa.
