August 29, 2005 The 8th Annual Mighty River Classic Our school will hold the Mighty River Classic on Saturday, October 1 at Hudson’s Bay High School in Vancouver, WA. We rely on everyone’s help to make our tournament a success, so please plan on devoting some time in August and September to prepare for this event. We will post job descriptions, a schedule of work, and a sign-up sheet soon. Special Guests of Honor We are honored to have two special guests of honor at this year’s Mighty River Classic: Dai Shihan Ted Tabura, leader of the Lima Lama Martial Arts System, written about in many martial arts publications, and featured in the August 2005 issue of Black Belt Magazine, and our Sigung Grandmaster Ron Pierce. New Class Sifu is offering another new class – Martial Art Sport Metrics intense training sessions - on Saturdays from 12:30 – 2:00. There is a $5.00 drop-in fee. New Equipment Coming soon, a Bowflex, chin-up/leg-lift/dip station and a Total Gym to aid in conditioning. STARK STREET ACADEMY OF KUNG FU NEWSLETTER July 12, 2005 Curriculum Update Starting July 19, Junior Classes will be held from 6:00 – 7:00 and Intermediate/Advanced Adults Classes will be held from 7:00 – 8:30 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. See the complete summer schedule for all the latest updates. Thanks for attending the new classes, Intermediate & Advanced Sparring Concepts and Weapons Forms. We have been working hard and having a lot of fun. Any beginners interested in the sparring class, please see Sifu for permission. Come join the fun! Billing Update Matthew Pulitzer is collecting mailing addresses for a new billing system so please give him this information as soon as possible if you have not already done so. And please remember tuition is due on or before the first of the month. Congratulations for Recent Promotions and Tournaments Some of our students participated in the West Coast Invitational Martial Arts Tournament a few weeks ago. Malia Cropper won first place in Jr. Girls Brown Belt Fighting. Riki Cropper won first place in Jr. Girls Color Belt Fighting. Trey Huggett won first place in Jr. Boys Color Belt Fighting and second place in forms. Nice job! Upcoming Events Quarterly Belt Test – Saturday, July 23. White to yellow sash testing starts at 10:00 and testing for color belt ranks starts at 12:00. All students are welcome to participate or just to watch. And please join us afterwards for A Chinese buffet at Wok’s Up, 17527 SE Stark Street. Bring your friends and family too. Tibetan Kung Fu with Lopon Steve Frison – Every Saturday 10:00 – 12:00 FREE! Seminar to benefit our Sigung, Grandmaster Ron Pierce – Sigung Pierce will travel here from California the weekend of August 27 and 28 and we are honored to hold a seminar for his benefit. STARK STREET ACADEMY OF KUNG FU NEWSLETTER July 2005 Curriculum Update Many thanks to all who completed the survey. Your valuable input will prompt several changes over the next few months, starting with a few curriculum changes. All students will be required to participate in a refresher course in Kajukenbo History and Kwoon Etiquette. The material will be presented to current students during regularly scheduled classes, and will then be incorporated into an orientation program for all new students. The Beginner’s Class on Thursday will shift to an earlier time slot. Starting July 7, class will be held from 6:00 – 7:00. Two new classes have been added. Intermediate & Advanced Sparring Concepts will be held Mondays and Thursdays from 7:00 – 8:00, starting July 7. Weapons Forms will be held Fridays from 7:00 – 7:45, starting July 8.

Tentative Monday and Thursday nights 7:00 pm.
